Valve vs Peristaltic

The tube is the pump.
And the tube always perishes.

A peristaltic pump is a squeezed tube. That tube is the dosing element, the wear part and the containment all at once. A MAC dosing valve has no tube in it.

The case for change

Why the peristaltic tube decides everything

A peristaltic pump doses by squeezing a tube against rollers, so the tube sets the dose, wears out and holds the chemical at the same time. As it softens the dose creeps, and when it finally splits the chemical goes into the pump case and onto the plinth. That is why the tube change interval, rather than the duty itself, tends to set the maintenance calendar in a dosing kiosk.

01

Pulsation errors costing you compliance

Stroke-based pumps create pulsation at low flows, causing dosing inaccuracy, downstream mixing problems, and dose logs that cannot be defended in an audit.

02

Tubing failures and unplanned downtime

Peristaltic tubing splits under chemical exposure. Every failure means a reactive call-out, replacement parts, and a window where dosing has stopped entirely.

03

High maintenance across multiple failure points

Check valves, diaphragms, tubing, and motors all need regular servicing. Each failure point is a separate maintenance task and a separate cost line.

04

Accuracy drift as components wear

Pump accuracy degrades as internals wear. The further from original design point, the worse the drift, and the harder it is to keep dose logs within spec.

Smart dosing integration

How AQUAIOT connects MAC valves to your water system

From sensor input to auditable dose log, in four steps.

1

Monitor

AQUAIOT sensors measure flow, conductivity, and water quality in real time. Data streams to the edge controller continuously.

2

Decide

Cloud logic and local edge rules calculate the dosing requirement against set-points, flow conditions, and time windows.

3

Dose

The MAC LBV fires precise solenoid pulses. Pulse width, frequency, and duration are all configurable from the AQUAIOT dashboard.

4

Prove

Every dose event is logged with timestamp, volume and sensor context, so creeping dose shows up as a trend rather than as a tube change you were late to.

Integration and control

Built for your existing infrastructure

SCADA and BMS

MODBUS RS485 and API connections. Direct integration with existing control systems without replacing your architecture.

Closed-loop dosing

Flow, conductivity, or quality sensor feedback adjusts dosing in real time. No manual trim, no operator intervention.

Compliance logging

Timestamped dose records with no tube-change interval to defend. Exportable evidence of dose delivery across the whole duty.

4G and LoRaWAN

Secure cellular telemetry. Encrypted payloads, over-the-air configuration, remote firmware updates.

PWM and proportional

On/off pulse, pulse-width modulation, or 0-10V / 4-20mA proportional control from one valve platform.

Cloud dashboard

Trendlines, alarms, analytics, role-based access, and data export from the AQUAIOT platform.

Peristaltic duty

Where the tube gives up

The duties where a squeezed tube becomes the weakest part of the dosing point. Part of the full chemical dosing valve range.

The tube is the weak point

The tube meters the dose, wears out and contains the chemical at once, so when it softens the dose creeps and when it splits you get a spill.

A dual D-Flex diaphragm valve has no squeezed tube and no roller pass, so there is no consumable setting the maintenance calendar.

No tube

Common questions

Dosing valve vs peristaltic pump questions

It depends on the chemical, the speed and the duty, but it is a scheduled consumable on every peristaltic pump and the interval is always a judgement call. Change it early and you throw away good tube. Change it late and you get a split, chemical in the pump case and a dosing point that stopped. The valve has no tube.
It usually fails by splitting, and the chemical is released inside the pump case and often onto the plinth or bund. That is a clean-up, a COSHH matter and a dosing outage in one event. The valve doses through a sealed body with no squeezed tube, so that failure mode is not in the design.
It is inherent to the mechanism. Each roller passing the tube delivers a slug of chemical, so the dose arrives in pulses rather than as a steady stream. On a small line the residual visibly saws between analyser readings. The valve meters into line pressure without that roller pulse behind it.
Where there is no line pressure to dose into, such as an open tank or a channel, and where you want the chemical touching nothing but the tube bore. Viscous or solids-bearing chemistry can also favour a peristaltic. If the injection point sits on a pressurised line, the valve takes the tube out of the equation.
BV214 and BV221 cores cover micro-litre to low-L/min dosing at up to roughly 8 to 10 bar, depending on orifice, body and elastomer selection.
The balanced poppet equalises upstream pressure variation, so dose volume per pulse stays consistent regardless of supply fluctuations, unlike a pump that drifts with wear.
There is no tubing to replace, no check valves to service and no motor wear. Cartridge-replaceable internals mean field service without removing the valve from the manifold.
Yes. MODBUS RS485 and API connections for SCADA, BMS, CAFM and the AQUAIOT cloud platform, with closed-loop control from flow, conductivity or water quality feedback.
