AQUAIOT Radar and Urban.io temperature probes, installed and supported in the UKTank monitoring
Know what is in every tank without climbing up to look.
AQUAIOT Radar reads the water level from the tank lid, and a temperature probe checks that stored cold water stays cold. When a tank starts to overfill, runs low or warms up, your team hears about it while there is still time to act.
- Non-contact radar level
- Temperature probes
- High and low level alarms
- LoRaWAN or cellular
- One dashboard

Why watch your tanks
Most tanks are only checked when someone climbs up to look.
Cold water tanks sit on roofs and in plant rooms. Sprinkler tanks wait for the day they are needed, and rainwater tanks fill and empty with the weather. Between visits nobody knows the level or the temperature, so a stuck float valve or a warm spell can go unnoticed.
HSE says incoming and stored cold water should stay below 20 °C to control legionella.

How it works
The radar reads the level from the lid, and the probe reads the temperature.
AQUAIOT Radar fits over an opening in the lid, or on a bracket above an open tank, and measures the distance down to the water. An Urban.io temperature probe on the outlet or in the tank reports the water temperature every 10 minutes.
We survey each tank.
We record the tank height, the overflow and the outlet, and choose where the radar and the probe go.
The radar measures the water level.
It reads the surface from above, so the level sensor never touches the water in the tank.
The probe watches the temperature.
Readings every 10 minutes show when stored cold water warms past 20 °C.
Alarms reach the right people.
High level, low level and temperature alarms go to the people you choose by SMS or email.
What you see
A stuck float valve shows up as a level that keeps on rising.
A healthy tank drops while the building draws water and refills to the same level each time. When a float valve sticks open, the level keeps climbing towards the overflow, and the high level alarm fires before the overflow starts to run.
- High and low level alarms
- Temperature alarm at your limit
- Daily use visible at a glance
- History kept for your records
Tank by tank
Each kind of tank needs a different reading.
The same radar reads the level in almost any tank. What you watch for changes with what the tank is for, and a cold water tank also needs its temperature watched.
| Cold water storage tanks | The level, so the building never runs short, and the temperature, which HSE says should stay below 20 °C. | AQUAIOT Radar and an Urban.io temperature probe |
|---|---|---|
| Sprinkler and fire water tanks | The level, so the tank is full on the day the system is called on. | AQUAIOT Radar |
| Rainwater and greywater tanks | The level, so stored water is used first and you can see how much mains water it saves. | AQUAIOT Radar |
| Attenuation tanks | The level before and after rain, so you know there is room for the next storm. | AQUAIOT Radar |
| Process and effluent tanks | The level, to stop overfilling and to protect pumps from running dry. | AQUAIOT Radar |
| Farm and remote tanks | The level at tanks and troughs far from power, reported over cellular. | AQUAIOT Radar on cellular |

Alerts
Every tank alarm goes to the person who can fix it.
An overfilling roof tank is a job for the estates engineer. A warm cold water tank is a question for whoever manages water hygiene. You decide who hears about which alarm, tank by tank.
Notify.
An SMS or email reaches the people you name when a level or temperature limit is crossed.
Act.
The alert says which tank and which limit, so the right person goes straight to it.
Record.
Every reading is stored and can be exported, which gives you a continuous record between inspections.
Where it fits
It suits any estate with tanks that nobody sees every day.
One dashboard can show every tank across a site or a whole estate, from the roof of the main building to a trough on the far side of a farm.
Hospitals and care homes
Cold water tanks where temperature records matter as much as the level.
Schools and universities
Tanks that sit untouched through the holidays and need watching while nobody is on site.
Offices and commercial buildings
Roof tanks above occupied floors, where an overflow can soak the ceilings below.
Housing blocks
Communal tanks serving many flats, where running dry affects every household at once.
Industrial sites
Process, wash water and effluent tanks, where overfilling or a dry pump stops production.
Farms and remote sites
Tanks and troughs with no mains power, read over cellular from wherever you are.
Estates with many buildings
Councils, trusts and property managers who need every tank on one screen instead of a clipboard round of roof visits.
Not sure which tanks to start with?

Why AQUAIOT
We plan, install and support the whole system.
The sensors come from specialist manufacturing partners. AQUAIOT selects them for your tanks, installs them, connects them and stays with you after go-live.
Site survey
We visit each tank, agree the fixing points and check LoRaWAN or cellular coverage.
Installation
The radar goes on the lid or a bracket, and the probe goes where it reads the stored water.
Telemetry and dashboard
We connect every sensor and set up the dashboard and the alarm limits with you.
Training and support
Your team learns the dashboard, and we support the system for as long as it runs.

The product
AQUAIOT Radar measures the level without touching the water.
It uses 60 GHz millimetre-wave radar through a narrow beam and runs on its own battery, so it can sit on a tank for years between visits.
- 60 GHz millimetre-wave radar
- ±2 mm on a still surface
- Measuring range up to 12 m
- IP68 sealed housing
- LoRaWAN or LTE Cat-1
- Up to 7 years on LoRaWAN
Questions
These are the questions estates teams ask first.
How does the radar measure the level in a tank?
It is fixed on the lid or above the opening and measures the distance down to the water surface. The tank dimensions are recorded at installation, so the dashboard can show the level as a height or as a percentage full.
Where does the radar go on a closed tank?
It needs a clear view of the water, so it fits over an opening in the lid or on a bracket above an open tank. We agree the exact fixing for each tank on the site survey.
Why measure the temperature of cold water tanks?
HSE guidance says stored cold water should stay below 20 °C, and describes 20 to 45 °C as suitable for legionella growth. A probe that reports every 10 minutes shows when a tank warms up, instead of relying on an occasional manual reading.
Can it warn us before a tank overflows?
Yes. A high level alarm set below the overflow fires when the level keeps rising, which is what a float valve stuck open looks like on the dashboard.
What about tanks with no power or Wi-Fi nearby?
The radar runs on its own battery and reports over LoRaWAN or LTE Cat-1 cellular. The Urban.io sensors are wireless and report through their own gateway, so neither needs the building network.
Can tank data go into our building or maintenance systems?
Yes. Readings can be exported, and APIs are available to pass tank data into building management and maintenance platforms.
