Chemical Metering

Meter by the pulse,
not by the stroke length.

A chemical metering valve delivers a repeatable volume on every pulse, held steady by a balanced poppet, so the dose you commissioned is the dose still going in months later.

The case for change

Why metering by stroke drifts

Stroke-based metering asks a mechanism to be the measurement. The volume is whatever the diaphragm displaces through two check valves on the day, and wear, back pressure and fouling all move that number. The dial keeps its setting while the delivered dose walks away from it. Metering by pulse changes what is being measured in the first place.

01

Pulsation errors costing you compliance

Stroke-based pumps create pulsation at low flows, causing dosing inaccuracy, downstream mixing problems, and dose logs that cannot be defended in an audit.

02

Tubing failures and unplanned downtime

Peristaltic tubing splits under chemical exposure. Every failure means a reactive call-out, replacement parts, and a window where dosing has stopped entirely.

03

High maintenance across multiple failure points

Check valves, diaphragms, tubing, and motors all need regular servicing. Each failure point is a separate maintenance task and a separate cost line.

04

Accuracy drift as components wear

Pump accuracy degrades as internals wear. The further from original design point, the worse the drift, and the harder it is to keep dose logs within spec.

Smart dosing integration

How AQUAIOT connects MAC valves to your water system

From sensor input to auditable dose log, in four steps.

1

Monitor

AQUAIOT sensors measure flow, conductivity, and water quality in real time. Data streams to the edge controller continuously.

2

Decide

Cloud logic and local edge rules calculate the dosing requirement against set-points, flow conditions, and time windows.

3

Dose

The MAC LBV fires precise solenoid pulses. Pulse width, frequency, and duration are all configurable from the AQUAIOT dashboard.

4

Prove

Every dose event is logged with timestamp, volume and sensor context, so the metered total is a record you can export rather than a stroke rate multiplied by run hours.

Integration and control

Built for your existing infrastructure

SCADA and BMS

MODBUS RS485 and API connections. Direct integration with existing control systems without replacing your architecture.

Closed-loop dosing

Flow, conductivity, or quality sensor feedback adjusts dosing in real time. No manual trim, no operator intervention.

Compliance logging

Timestamped metered volumes rather than estimated totals. Exportable evidence of chemical delivered, per line and per day.

4G and LoRaWAN

Secure cellular telemetry. Encrypted payloads, over-the-air configuration, remote firmware updates.

PWM and proportional

On/off pulse, pulse-width modulation, or 0-10V / 4-20mA proportional control from one valve platform.

Cloud dashboard

Trendlines, alarms, analytics, role-based access, and data export from the AQUAIOT platform.

Metering duty

Where precise metering matters

The duties where the dose has to be repeatable and countable, not approximately right. Part of the full chemical dosing valve range.

Counting, not displacement

Dose is pulse count multiplied by volume per pulse, so metering is a count rather than whatever a worn mechanism happened to displace that day.

Telemetry totals the counted volume per line and per day and exports it, so chemical consumption comes from the dosing element, not a tank dip.

Repeatable dose

Proportional dosing valve

Flow-proportional and residual-trim dosing, driven from a signal under PWM control.

Signal driven

Dosing valve vs metering pump

Check valve fouling, lost prime and stroke calibration drift, put side by side.

Comparison

Food, beverage and CIP

Repeatable sanitiser, caustic and acid dosing, logged for HACCP.

Common questions

Chemical metering valve questions

It opens for a controlled pulse and the balanced poppet governs the volume that passes, so the dose is pulse count multiplied by volume per pulse. Metering becomes counting rather than displacement, which is why the figure holds when the upstream supply pressure moves around during the day.
It equalises the upstream pressure acting on the poppet, so the force opening it does not change when supply pressure does. In practice a pulse delivers the same volume whether the line sits at the top or the bottom of its normal range, which is the part a stroke-based pump cannot hold on to.
Yes. Because the dose is delivered in counted pulses, AQUAIOT telemetry totals the volume per line and per day and exports it, so consumption comes from the dosing element itself rather than from tank dips and run hours. It also makes an unexpected total visible early rather than at stocktake.
No. A flow meter measures what has already passed. A metering valve delivers a known volume per pulse and, with telemetry, records those pulses, so the dose and its record come from the same device. Where a duty needs verified totalising as well, the two work together rather than competing.
BV214 and BV221 cores cover micro-litre to low-L/min dosing at up to roughly 8 to 10 bar, depending on orifice, body and elastomer selection.
The balanced poppet equalises upstream pressure variation, so dose volume per pulse stays consistent regardless of supply fluctuations, unlike a pump that drifts with wear.
There is no tubing to replace, no check valves to service and no motor wear. Cartridge-replaceable internals mean field service without removing the valve from the manifold.
Yes. MODBUS RS485 and API connections for SCADA, BMS, CAFM and the AQUAIOT cloud platform, with closed-loop control from flow, conductivity or water quality feedback.
