ACOP L8 is the Health and Safety Executive’s Approved Code of Practice and guidance on the control of Legionella bacteria in water systems. It sets out the duty holder’s legal responsibilities to assess the risk, prevent or control it, and monitor and keep records. Following the code is the recognised way to show you are managing Legionella risk under health and safety law.
Does ACOP L8 require continuous monitoring?
The code does not mandate a specific technology; it requires that you monitor the control measures and keep records showing they are effective. Continuous monitoring is one way to meet that duty, and a strong one, because it evidences temperature control every hour rather than at monthly intervals.
